I am passionate about optimizing my health. How about you?
As of recent, I have incorporated a meal into my Sunday nights. I am still accessing the full effects on me. But I can tell you that I am full of energy the next day. I even beat my alarm the next day I set my alarm for 3:30am every morning.
For context, let me share with you my diet through any given week. I eat steak and eggs for breakfast. I eat steak as a mid morning snack. I eat an apple pre-workout. I eat a banana and a protein shake post workout. I eat either another steak or poke bowl. Hawaii is spoiling me with having those available all around me. I may have another steak as a mid-afternoon snack. Then I close the day with broth at night.
On Sunday night, I like to use this type of meal to purge the digestive system. Moreover, I am more likely to fast on Sundays. When I do, I drink water and coffee until dinner.
In this blog post, I will share the combination of ingredients I use. I will also share the effects and benefits it gives your body. I will leave you with my simple yet effective recipe.
The Ingredients
Onions are a good source of fiber, vitamins C and K, and quercetin. The latter is an antioxidant with anti-inflammatory and immune-boosting properties. Eating onions improves digestion, reduces inflammation, and boost your immune system.
Bell peppers are a good source of vitamins A, C, and K. They are also a good source of fiber and potassium. Eating bell peppers improve eye health and boost your immune system. It also reduces the risk of heart disease and stroke. I choose bell peppers of all colors.
Mushrooms are a good source of fiber, vitamins B and D, and potassium. They also contain antioxidants that help protect cells from damage. Mushrooms reduce the risk of chronic diseases. Heart disease, stroke and cancer among these.
Beef bone broth is a good source of protein, collagen, and minerals. The latter includes calcium, magnesium, and phosphorus. Protein is essential in building and repairing tissues. Collagen helps improve skin health and reduce joint pain. Minerals are important for your health and wellbeing.
The Benefits
When you eat this meal, you are getting plenty of nutrients. These come with many health benefits. Here are some I have experienced:
Improved digestion. The fiber in these foods keep my digestive system healthy and regular. Moreover, it helps push out the acidic and mucus byproduct. I accumulate the latter due to my protein consumption throughout the week. Thus, I dedicate at least one day a week to purge it out.
Reduced inflammation. The antioxidants and anti-inflammatory compounds in these foods reduce inflammation. I suffer from low back pain due to tight hip flexors. I wake up with little to no back pain on Monday. Of course, my mattress, pillow and sleeping position play a role as well. That's a topic for another day.
Boosted immune system. The vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants in these keep my immune system strong.
Improved heart health. The fiber and potassium in these foods help lower cholesterol levels. This reduces the risk of heart disease. Of course, I want to lower my bad cholesterol and keep my good cholesterol high.
Stronger bones and joints. The collagen in bone broth strengthen my bones and joints. At the age of 38, I am still mobile and flexible. I lift using the full range of motion. I did mention having tight hip flexors. I also have tight ankles. The bone broth helps me recover when I work on the mobility of those tight areas.
Improved skin health. The collagen in bone broth improves skin elasticity. This reduces the appearance of wrinkles. While I don't care much about wrinkles, it's a nice added bonus.
Reduced joint pain. The collagen in bone broth reduces joint pain and stiffness. This complements the relief on my low back upon rising.
Improved quality sleep. The tryptophan in onions and mushrooms promote sleep. I can attest to sleeping well and waking up refreshed. Even if I sleep a few hours.
The Bonus Benefit: Testosterone
This benefit surprised me. I did not know the effect of this mela on my testosterone levels. I start feeling the difference and looked into it. Here's what I found:
Onions contain quercetin. Studies have shown that this antioxidant improves testosterone production. Onions also contain compounds that reduce inflammation. This also improves testosterone production.
Bell peppers are a good source of vitamin C. The latter protect the testicles from damage. Thus improving testosterone production. Bell peppers are also a good source of potassium. The latter regulates blood pressure and improve circulation. This helps with testosterone production.
Mushrooms contain ergothioneine. This is an amino acid that protects the testicles from damage. Mushrooms also contain selenium. A mineral essential for testosterone production.
The Meal Recipe
Melt butter on a skillet over medium heat.
Pour the beef bone broth into a pot over medium-high heat.
Add your vegetables to the skillet.
Season your vegetables with garlic salt.
Cook the vegetables for no more than 5 minutes. You want to caramelize the vegetables but not overcook them. This destroys the vegetables nutritional value.
Season the beef bone broth with garlic salt. Remember the broth already contains sodium (i.e. salt).
Serve your vegetables on a plate and the broth in a bowl.
Enjoy!
Conclusion
This meal has improved my digestion, sleep, and testosterone levels. It also helps me recover from workouts or stiffness at the joints. I do eat at least 2 hours before bedtime. I cannot sleep well when full. My body cannot rest while processing food. Even if it's a light meal such as this one.
Give this meal a try and experience the benefits for yourself. So sweet dreams and better health awaits!
